Good morning blog friends! Please excuse my lack of a post yesterday but I was in the car for a good deal of the day driving through areas of the US without reception. Basically, there was no way posting could happen. But now here I am! I've done a lot this week, here we go!
Birthdays strike as soon as I return to school so I need to prepare now when I still have access to A C Moore! I'm not making this 7-year-old sized like it is in the picture but I'm sure it'll still be adorable. The buttons on it will also be handmade by moi making it completely my own. I should make buttons more often!
In other news, I've been working on convertible gloves for an art trade with a friend from school. I'm not going to show you more than the ribbing until they're finished just because this is the hardest pattern I've worked with. Thanks to Jess' mom for helping me figure out what I've got myself into.
And now for something completely different! The main reason I didn't post yesterday is because I drove up to Vermont with my extended family to go on a tour of Stave Puzzles. Stave creates one of a kind wooden puzzles that are absolutely incredible. The one I have in the photo is a limited edition Cinderella puzzle. It's hand painted by an artist in New Hampshire, then the design is stuck onto the wooden surface. After, the puzzle is brought to the cutters and they cut each and every piece with a mechanized saw going up and down. The saw blade is only as thick as a human hair! No puzzle comes out the same because it is hand cut.
These aren't ordinary puzzles either! They have 6 or 7 different types. The one you're looking at is called a Trickster puzzle because it has negative space, pieces that won't fit in, and multiple ways to put it together but only one is right. That one isn't the right way if you were wondering!
The company employs under 40 people and ships the puzzles world wide. In the next few weeks they'll be on the Today Show as the hosts put together a specialty puzzle that they've created just for the show-which we got to see!
Honestly, it was so magical, and they knew who we were because my family loves Stave.
